Community groups in Stockport have the opportunity to apply for funding via the council to provide a warm welcome to cyclists competing in the Tour of Britain.
The fund has been introduced to help with materials for banners and flags to support the competitors on Saturday 14 September and can help to raise the profile of cycling in the region.
Stage 8 of the Tour of Britain is due to begin in Altrincham before passing through several of the Stockport’s suburbs, including Bramhall, Woodford, Hazel Grove, High Lane, Marple and Compstall.
Cyclists will then continue north through Tameside and Oldham, before following an anticlockwise path via Rochdale, Bury and Bolton. When it reaches Haigh, north of Wigan, the route veers towards Salford and its Manchester city centre finishing line.
The Tour of Britain is a 1,250km route that begins in Glasgow on 7 September and includes the south of Scotland and the North East, before its grand finale in Greater Manchester on Saturday 14 September. The Stage 8 route is available here.
